How many .th TLDs are there, and why do they need different documents?
THNIC (Thailand Network Information Center) manages far more than just .co.th and .in.th. There are five more specialized TLDs, each reserved for a specific type of organization: .ac.th (educational institutions), .go.th (government agencies), .or.th (non-profit organizations), .mi.th (military units), and .net.th (telecom operators).
Because each TLD is restricted to a specific group, THNIC requires proof that the applicant genuinely belongs to that group before approving a registration. This prevents outsiders from impersonating a government agency or educational institution online. This guide brings together the document requirements for every Thai TLD in one place, along with the correct way to submit them.
One thing to get straight first: for every TLD below, you are the one who prepares and sends the original documents to AsiaGB first — our team only checks that everything is complete and correct, then files the application with THNIC. We do not issue or create identity-verification documents on your behalf, because these documents must come from a government authority or the rights holder itself.

Document details by TLD
.in.th — individuals and general organizations
The most flexible TLD, ideal for individuals or small businesses that haven't registered as a legal entity yet.
- Registering as an individual: send one of — Thai ID card, civil servant ID card, driver's license, passport, or work permit (must be signed as a certified true copy)
- Registering as an organization: a domain registration notification letter signed by the organization's executive (much simpler than .co.th — a full company certificate is not required)
Naming exception: .in.th is the only TLD where the domain name can be anything you like — it doesn't need to match your personal name or organization name at all. It just needs to be available.
.co.th — businesses and trademarks
The most widely used TLD among Thai businesses, with several possible registration bases:
- Based on company name (registered in Thailand): send one of — company certificate, VAT registration (Por.Por.20), trade registration (Tor.Kor.0401/Por.Kor.0401), Por.Por.01 or Por.Por.09 (must be certified by an officer), or a Memorandum of Association (must be certified by an officer) — the domain name must correspond to or be part of the company name; you cannot add extra words beyond the company name
- Based on company name (foreign company with a Thai representative): requires 3 documents — the foreign company's certificate, the Thai representative company's certificate, and a letter from the foreign company confirming the representative and authorizing the domain registration
- Based on a mark (registered in Thailand): a registration certificate for a trademark, service mark, collective mark, or certification mark from the Department of Intellectual Property (whichever type you hold) — the domain name must match that mark exactly; multiple marks allow multiple .co.th domains
- Based on a mark (registered abroad, with a Thai representative): the same 3 documents required for the foreign-company case above
.ac.th — educational institutions
Reserved for educational institutions registered in Thailand. Requires a copy of the school establishment document, together with a domain registration certification letter.
.go.th — government agencies
Restricted to Thai government bodies only. Ministry, bureau, department, or provincial-level agencies need a formal domain registration notification letter; local government agencies can use an internal memo instead.
.or.th — non-profit organizations
Suited to chambers of commerce, trade associations, foundations, and charities. Accepted documents include a Chamber of Commerce license, a Trade Association license, or an association/organization establishment license (pick whichever matches your organization type).
.mi.th — military units
Reserved for units under the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Requires an authorization letter from the Directorate of Joint Communications permitting the registration.
.net.th — telecom operators
Reserved for legal entities holding a telecommunications business license under Thailand's Telecommunications Business Act B.E. 2544 (2001). Requires an organization establishment document, or — if that's not available — paperwork identifying the chairperson, committee, and clear objectives, with certification from a known authority.
Rules that apply to every .th TLD
Regardless of which TLD you register, THNIC enforces the same core conditions across the board:
- The domain name must exactly match the organization name, trademark, or rights holder — a name completely unrelated to the applicant will not be approved (except .in.th, which can use any available name)
- Personal document copies must be signed as certified true copies, marked "for domain registration purposes only" to prevent misuse of the copy
- Submit clear PDF files or photos — every number and character must be legible, with your contact details attached
- Company certificates or official documents must be no older than 6 months from the date of submission
Example: a school named "Wittayakarn" wants to register wittayakarn.ac.th — since the domain name matches the school's name, it can be submitted immediately with the school establishment document. But an unrelated name may prompt THNIC to request additional documents or reject the application.
How to send documents to AsiaGB
Since identity-verification documents must come from a government authority or from you directly, AsiaGB acts as the intermediary that checks and files your application with THNIC. Here's the process:
- Choose your TLD and check name availability — search for the name you want first to confirm no one else has registered it
- Prepare the documents for your chosen TLD — use the table above to see which document set you need
- Scan or photograph your documents clearly — sign every copy as a certified true copy before sending
- Send the documents to AsiaGB via email at [email protected], along with the domain name you want
- Our team checks everything is complete — we'll let you know immediately if anything is missing or unclear, so it can be fixed before we file
- AsiaGB submits the application to THNIC using the documents you sent — not documents our team creates
- Wait for approval and set up DNS — once THNIC approves, the domain goes active immediately
To be clear: AsiaGB cannot issue a company certificate, school establishment document, or CIO notification letter on your behalf — these must always come from your own parent authority. Our team can only help verify that what you send meets THNIC's requirements before we file it. AsiaGB only submits the application — we cannot guarantee you'll get the domain name you want until THNIC reviews and approves it.
Approval times and if your application is rejected
Once you've sent us complete documents, here's what happens on THNIC's side:
| Step | Time |
|---|---|
| AsiaGB reviews your documents | Within 1 business day |
| THNIC review and approval (complete documents) | 1–3 business days |
| If documents are incomplete or need correction | An additional 3–7 business days |
If THNIC rejects the application, you don't have to start over completely. THNIC usually states the reason for rejection — most often a domain name that doesn't match the documents, or expired/unclear paperwork. Fix that specific issue and send the corrected documents to us so we can resubmit right away.
Frequently asked questions about .th domain documents
Who submits the documents to THNIC — the customer or AsiaGB?
You always send the original documents (scanned or photographed) to AsiaGB first. Our team checks that everything is complete and correct, then files the application with THNIC on your behalf. AsiaGB cannot issue or create identity-verification documents for you, and we only submit the application — we cannot guarantee the domain name until THNIC approves it.
Is .go.th only for government agencies?
Yes. .go.th is reserved exclusively for Thai government agencies. Ministry/department/province-level agencies need a formal notification letter; local government agencies can use an internal memo instead.
Can I register a Thai domain without a registered company?
Yes — use .in.th, which individuals can register with just a copy of their Thai ID card or driver's license. No company registration is required.
What file format should I send documents in?
Send clear PDF files or photos with all text legible. Personal ID copies must be signed as certified true copies and marked "for domain registration purposes only."
What happens if THNIC rejects my application?
You don't need to start over. THNIC usually states the reason for rejection — commonly a mismatch between the domain name and the documents, or expired paperwork. Fix that specific issue and resubmit through us.
